Renewal is pleased to present Green Awakenings: Digging Deeper

Building on the success on Renewal's initial report (see below), Green Awakenings: Stories of Stewardship and Sustainability from the Next Generation, which was released in 2010, we set out to research more on the creation initiatives at Christian colleges and universities throughout the US and Canada.

This year's report seeks to answer the following questions:
What does it take to motivate a Christian campus toward environmental stewardship?
What are the most common barriers that prevent Christian campuses from thriving in terms of environmental stewardship?

From the introduction:
Renewal's 2011 report, Green Awakenings: Digging Deeper explores the conditions that lead to the sucess or failure of creation care initiatives on Christian campuses.
Green Awakenings: Digging Deeper outlines ways to focus your efforts to target the most important assests, build on your group's pre-existing strengths, and overcome barriers.

We hope the report inspires and instructs you as you seek to live out your love for God by actively caring for all that he has made.

2010:
THE GREEN AWAKENINGS REPORT:
RENEWAL’S CREATION CARE RESEARCH PROJECT

Over the summer of 2009, Renewal launched a creation care research project that culminated in The Green Awakenings Campus Report along with an online directory.This first-of-its-kind report highlights growing environmental stewardship efforts on Christian campuses across the United States and Canada. Our generation in particular is stepping up to make a difference, but little is known about what this practically looks like across the movement. Here is an opportunity for us to show the world what happens when Christian students and campuses come together to care for Creation.

Inspired in part by the Sierra Club’s Faith in Action report, our two-fold goal demonstrates to colleges, churches, and communities how we are working together for the renewal of God’s creation, and inspire others to join us.

To do this, we will be researched and documented campus efforts according to five geographical regions (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West). Each region will comprises its own section of the report and campuses are featured at varying lengths depending on how active and committed they are to environmental stewardship. Appendices provide additional resources for those interested in getting involved in any of the existing projects or starting something new.
