Advocate

The origin of the word "advocate" is quite meaningful for those of us engaged in caring for God's creation. At its root is "voc" which comes from the Latin word for voice (vox). The Latin "advocare' means "to call to one's aid" As Christians, we are called to the aid of those most in need and to add our voices in the call for justice.

Renewal seeks to fulfill our Christian calling - and our cultural tradition - of being doers and seekers of justice by advocating on behalf of God's people and God's creation. We do this by learning. We do this by educating each other and our communities. We do this by sharing our concerns and our values with our leaders - be they our parents, our pastors, or our policy makers.

Renewal will thoughtfully share education and advocacy opportunities with its participants and friends in the knowledge that raising and using our public voice is one of the many tools given to us by the Creator to care for the whole of the creation. Once a year - guided by Renewal's student leadership team - Renewal will ask its participants and allies to unite their voices for a day of advocacy.
